Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from a NAACLS accredited medical technology program required after 1995.
• Associate degree from a NAACLS accredited medical laboratory technician/clinical laboratory technician with experience required.
• Certification required within first year of hire; ASCP certification preferred but can be obtained (MT or eligible).
• Certification earned in 2004 or later must maintain 36 contact hours of continuing education every three years.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates safe and competent use of equipment and software to carry out duties (e.g., entering patient/specimen data into Sunquest and Eclipses).
• Prioritize workflow by medical necessity and priority.
• Performs testing and ensures instrumentation operates within established guidelines; conducts maintenance and troubleshooting as assigned.
• Performs testing according to procedure manual with appropriate specimen handling and quality control; reports results with appropriate turnaround time.
• Performs phlebotomies and urine drug screens as requested including special collections.
• Assists in writing and documenting new procedures and implementing new instrumentation; maintains inventory and trains new staff.
