Responsibilities*
  • Work with a small team under the supervision of Faculty Medical Physicists to preform quality assurance measurements for clinical treatments and assist with research measurements and analysis.
  • Preform patient-specific dosimetric measurements, dose calculations, dosimetric and geometric comparisons, and preform analysis for radiation oncology treatments. Measurements will include film acquisition and digitization, flat panel detectors, ion chambers, diodes, and other dosimetric devices.
  • Acquire quality assurance information including machine data, patient setup, and imaging information during radiation oncology patient treatments. Set up this data for analysis with respect to expected results. Assist in commissioning of new quality assurance equipment as appropriate.
  • Preform patient-specific and process-related quality assurance checks of the treatment planning and delivery process from patient immobilization through CT-simulation, treatment planning and delivery,-related imaging and QA data.
  • Assist with the introduction of new technology and procedures into radiation oncology treatment practice. Preform dosimetric measurements, analysis, documentation and training for commissioning of radiation oncology equipment.
  • Support advanced patient imaging and positioning protocols by developing procedures and instructing staff.
  • Acquire and analyze patient data for retrospective or prospective clinical and protocol studies.
Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in physics, engineering, medical technology, or a similar field, or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated successful clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate medical terminology and technical procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and take appropriate actions with clinical results
  • Demonstrated effective organizational skills within a lab setting
  • Ability to lift equipment weighing 35 pounds.
Desired Qualifications*
  • Specialized training in radiological physics or dosimetry, or an equivalent amount of education and experience.
  • Experience in data analysis techniques, experimentation, and software analysis tools is desirable.
  • 1+ years of experience with radiation measurement techniques and use and testing of radiation treatment planning system is also desirable.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
