Commonwealth Health in Wilkes-Barre is seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform routine and specialized tests on blood and body fluids. The role requires strict adherence to quality control and instrument maintenance.

The candidate will assist the Section Supervisor, participate in teaching and evaluation of students and new staff, and perform minor instrument repairs as needed. Relevant CLIA grandfather options may apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Associate degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology, or meet CLIA’88 grandfather requirements.

JOB LOCATION – Wilkes-Barre General Hospital

JOB SHIFT – Part Time Days (32 hours)

POSITION PURPOSE

Perform routine and specialized moderate and high complexity laboratory tests on all types of blood and body fluid specimens under minimal supervision. Insures accurate and reliable test results by adhering to a strict quality control program. Perform instrument function checks and preventative maintenance procedures according to department’s policies and procedures. Perform minor instrument repair as necessary.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution, or an associate degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or meet grandfather requirements under CLIA’88 personnel requirements.

Experience/Specialized Skills/Aptitudes

One (1) to two (2) years preferred. Precision and accuracy to perform Laboratory procedures. Keen judgment to evaluate information against measurable criteria in the performance of tests. Visual acuity to read instructions and examine specimens. Form perception and color discrimination to identify cells and micro-organisms. Manual dexterity to operate equipment. Assist the Section Supervisor in resolving equipment problems, oversees the teaching and evaluation of students and new employees and has expertise with specific Laboratory procedures or Laboratory instrumentation.
