Day Kimball Health is hiring for a Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Technician (Per Diem) for the Lab Department in Putnam, CT!

MLT or MT Job Summary:

As an MLT or MT, you will be a vital member of a dynamic team responsible for providing testing on patient samples, delivering quality results to physicians using various clinical laboratory equipment. You will have a comprehensive understanding of patient safety and laboratory techniques to ensure complete patient safety and confidentiality.

MLT or MT Job Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and operate clinical lab equipment according to manufacturer instructions and laboratory policies. Interpret results and communicate appropriately when results are abnormal or upon special request.
  • Accurately identify patient samples and access them into the Laboratory Information System using correct account numbers and test codes.
  • Use and dispose of hazardous and biohazardous materials following laboratory policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Run controls and understand their importance in verifying test quality before result release.
  • Provide phlebotomy services to patients as needed during shifts.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • ASCP Medical Technologist or MLT, or AMT Medical Technologist certification required.
  • Preferably, 5 years of experience in a hospital laboratory.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems, including order entry, inquiry, and specimen tracking.
  • Excellent communication skills—telephone, written, speaking, and critical value reporting.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety procedures related to hazardous chemicals.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
  • Ability to apply scientific reasoning to define problems, analyze data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Capacity to evaluate data, consider alternatives, and communicate effectively with hospital staff.
