Position Summary

Performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states.

Reports To

Director of Laboratory

Responsibilities

1. Follow standardized procedures and help prepare samples for testing.
2. Collect samples and analyze bodily fluids and substances for abnormalities. Collect blood and study blood samples used in transfusions.
3. Operate laboratory equipment effectively and accurately.
4. Analyze test results for accuracy and report/document results per standards.
5. Perform automated and manual tests as instructed.
6. Perform Quality Assurance to ensure equipment accuracy.
7. Perform phlebotomy procedures according to policies.
8. Assist with clerical tasks such as QC, QA, and report lookup.
9. Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
10. Review and maintain patient and QC results daily.
11. Assist in developing procedures and training new staff.
12. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education & Certifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or Medical Lab Science required; Master’s preferred.
• Active license with ASCP or comparable certification; eligible to sit within 6 months.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Work Experience

Minimum one year in a clinical laboratory; three years for third shift preferred.

Physical Environment

Exposed to infections, chemicals, radiation, and hazardous materials. Must hear normal sounds and work in a potentially hazardous environment.
