Responsibilities
  1. Perform waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by CLIA, Bus. & Prof. Code Section 1204, with skills appropriate to your education, training, and experience.
  2. Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
  3. Follow established quality control policies and document corrective actions when test systems deviate from performance specifications.
  4. Identify problems affecting test performance and correct or report them immediately.
  5. Perform various laboratory procedures using manual and automated methods across disciplines such as Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, and Immunology.
  6. Maintain and document instruments and equipment as required.
  7. Review the accuracy of patient results before reporting.
  8. Recognize age-specific differences in expected results from newborns to geriatrics.
  9. Ensure proficiency testing samples are processed as with patient samples, avoiding collaboration with other labs before reporting results.
  10. Perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups if required.
  11. Assist in developing and maintaining laboratory policies and procedures.
  12. Adhere to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources policies.
  13. In the absence of a supervisor, may serve as Lead Tech with responsibility for the section or department during their shift.
  14. May handle responsibilities related to LIS and/or POC.
  15. Perform other tasks as assigned by the department manager/director.
Qualifications

Education, Experience, and Training:

  • ASCP certification or equivalent required.
  • Minimum two years of hospital laboratory experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in chemical, physical, biological sciences, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as per CLIA (42 CFR 493.1489).
  • Current and valid State License if required by the state.
