Job summary

UAB Medicine, Alabama’s largest health system, is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform, interpret, and report results on routine and complex procedures in the clinical laboratory. The role involves evaluating new instruments, ensuring QC, and potentially coordinating education and supervisory duties within a section.

Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory or related field with 1 year of experience, and current MLS (ASCP) or MT (AMT) certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory or a related field and one year of related experience required.
• Currently credentialed as MLS by ASCP OR certified as MT by AMT required.
• BLS certification may be required or obtained within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Perform, interpret, check accuracy and report results on routine and complex laboratory procedures on body tissues, fluids and other substances.
• Evaluate new instruments and methods, ensure correct reagent preparation and quality control, lead troubleshooting and monitor equipment maintenance.
• May perform apheresis and/or bone marrows or coordinate education, computer operations, quality control/QA duties, and supervisory function within a section.

Education
