Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Medical Technologist in the Cytogenetics division to perform chromosome analysis and FISH on bone marrow, blood, amniotic fluid, and tissues, ensuring accuracy and timely results.

Responsibilities include culture setup, slide prep, documentation, data entry into EPIC, SOP maintenance, and collaboration with MUHA laboratories, with an emphasis on quality control and professional conduct.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Genetics, Biology, Clinical Lab Science, Medical Technology or related field.
• ASCP certification preferred; must be obtained within first year if not current.
• Career Ladder position; internal candidates must meet ICCE requirements.

Responsibilities

• Independently perform chromosome analysis for genetic disease (hematologic and constitutional).
• Perform cell culture setup, harvest, slide prep, banding, and FISH setup.
• Assure integrity of specimens throughout all phases of workflow.
• Perform work with the highest standard for accuracy and precision.
• Understand the basis of each test; use knowledge to judge test result acceptability.
• Troubleshoot instrumentation and culture/harvest issues.
• Maintain and document QC/QA logs accurately.
• Enter results into EPIC and perform checks to minimize clerical errors.
• Maintain competency in all cytogenetics tests; perform as assigned.
• Adhere to professional standards and MUSC code of conduct.
• Other duties as required.
