Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform, evaluate, and monitor laboratory tests in an acute care setting. You will ensure accurate reporting and support transfusion services among ED, ICU and OR teams.

You will also supervise and train medical laboratory technicians and students, participate in quality control, and help improve procedures to meet accrediting standards. A bachelor's degree in clinical lab sciences and certification within 1 year are required, with

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
• Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Medical Technology or related field.
• No experience required.
• Licensure/Certification within 1 year: MT/MLS by ASCP or AMT.

Responsibilities

• Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests within established protocols.
• Evaluates results for clinical significance and reports appropriately.
• Performs calibration, maintenance and repair of instruments; detects malfunctions.
• Documents quality control and quality assurance; takes corrective actions.
• Collects and labels specimens from newborn to adult patients per protocol.
• Provides training and supervision to medical laboratory staff and students.
• Improves laboratory procedures to meet accrediting standards and CAP requirements.
• Performs proficiency testing and supports transfusion services and other specialty areas.
• Provides timely results for critical care departments during high acuity events.
• Demonstrates care appropriate to the age of patients served.
