Requirements

• Active certification through ASCP, AMT, HEW, or AAB required
• Minimum of 18 months of Medical Laboratory Technologist/Technician experience
• A state license may be required
• Basic knowledge of scientific laboratory procedures, including operating laboratory equipment and generating reports

Duties and Responsibilities

The Medical Laboratory Technologist will primarily test blood and bodily fluids using complex laboratory equipment to gather diagnostic information.

• Examine specimens for bacteria, viruses, or parasites
• Measure drug and chemical levels in blood to optimize medication therapy
• Assess chemical content of blood to identify nutrient deficiencies or excesses like cholesterol or blood sugar
• Operate cell counters, microscopes, cultures, and other laboratory equipment
• Follow lab protocols for analyzing, interpreting, and delivering test results
