3rd shift- 9pm-7am - 4 day work week with every other weekend.
Medical Technologist 40 hours, third shift, 11pm-7am: weekends required, holidays required as needed
Position Function:
- Process and perform routine and specialized laboratory testing on blood, urine, tissue, and other body fluid secretions.
- Proficiently function as a technologist in one or more of the following areas:
- Clinical Chemistry
- Clinical Hematology
- Clinical Microbiology
- Blood Banking or Serology
- Work collaboratively as a team to monitor and maintain instrumentation, ensure appropriate quality control, and pursue quality improvement in all aspects of laboratory function.
- Interface with staff and healthcare providers as required to meet customer expectations for laboratory service.
II. Job Relationships:
- Reports to section Supervisor.
- Collaborates with staff in departments such as:
- Specimen Processing
- Customer Service
- Phlebotomy
- Couriers
III. Authority:
- Report and/or reject specimen results related to acceptable completion of preventive maintenance and quality control protocols.
- Request assistance from Supervisor or Clinical Engineering as necessary.
- Discuss patient test outcomes with healthcare providers as needed.
IV. Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

- Follow procedures to perform routine, STAT, or special tests, ensuring accurate recording and timely reporting.
- Maintain competence in all scheduled test protocols through periodic challenges.
- Understand bodily processes related to laboratory testing.
- Correlate and evaluate testing data for troubleshooting and clinician follow-up.
- Troubleshoot methodology failures successfully.
- Exhibit strong organizational skills.
- Manage multiple duties efficiently, working independently when needed.
- Perform Quality Control procedures, document results, and follow up on outliers.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment, documenting activities.
- Notify Supervisors of unusual or unexpected results and report critical values appropriately.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and legible records.
- Teach, communicate ideas, and offer solutions to lab problems.
- Follow organizational and departmental policies, including safety and waste procedures.
- Report potential problems that may affect laboratory goals.
- Maintain professionalism in attire and interactions.
- Assist with orientation of new staff and students.
- Use Laboratory Information System to report results.
- Engage in ongoing education through courses and seminars.
- Support effective communication and cooperation among staff and departments.
- Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
2.) Responsibilities/Non-Essential Functions:
- File worksheets.
- Review task lists for completeness.
- Participate in studies as needed.
- Transport specimens and reports as requested.
V. Reporting Requirements:
- Report testing results daily via LIS to healthcare providers.
- Use numerical, canned message, and free text formats.
- Report problems or concerns immediately to the section Supervisor.
- Provide on-demand verbal reports of patient testing.
- Log laboratory problems and issues.
VI. Accountability:
- Maintain confidentiality and security of hospital and patient data.
- Adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
- Report in a timely manner.
- Complete preventive maintenance and quality control logs.
- Ensure the quality of reported testing.
VII. Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related science, with degree attainment within 6 months of start date, or
Associate's degree in Medical Technology with 2 years of full-time experience preferred.
Minimum skills/abilities:
- Follow complex laboratory procedures based on instructions.
- Understand lab environment risks and biohazards.
- Manual dexterity for manipulating equipment.
- Effective communication of laboratory data verbally.
Certification/Licensure:
- Generalist multi-categorical certification, ASCP, NCA, or HEW preferred or equivalent.
