A leading healthcare provider seeks a Medical Technician - Phlebotomist to assist in specimen collection and laboratory procedures at their Bay Pines facility. The role requires proficiency in phlebotomy, strong customer service skills, and relevant educational qualifications. The technician will work full-time, Monday through Friday, with rotating shifts, ensuring high-quality patient care and adherence to safety protocols.
The incumbent serves as a Medical Technician - Phlebotomist at the CW Bill Young Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Bay Pines, FL, within the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service. The role involves assisting Medical Technologists - Supervisors and Managers with specimen collection, examination, receipt, processing, shipment procedures, and performing phlebotomy in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), proficiency in basic written and spoken English is required for direct patient care positions. The position includes a Selective Placement Factor: experience performing phlebotomy/blood draws on human patients. To qualify at the GS-5 level, candidates must meet one of the following:
Additional competencies include computer skills, customer service, patient care, quality assurance, and specimen collection. Full-time work is considered 35-40 hours per week. All experience must include specific start/end dates, with part-time experience credited proportionally. Volunteer work is also considered.
Physical demands may include lifting, standing, foot travel, bending, sitting, digital dexterity, and adequate vision for venipuncture. Daily repetitive keyboarding is required. Safety practices must be followed, and the ability to assist staff with physical control of patients may be necessary.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm, with rotating weekends and holidays.
