Job summary

Virtua Health is seeking a laboratory technician to analyze and validate procedures across varying complexities for patient care. The role emphasizes accurate testing, quality control, and timely result reporting.

Responsibilities include pre-analytical processes, specimen handling, instrument maintenance, and clear communication with healthcare teams. A relevant externship and an Associate's degree are required, with CLIA high-complexity eligibility and ASCP preferred.

Qualifications

• Externship of 4–6 months with good interpersonal and time management skills.
• Associate’s degree in laboratory science is required.
• Valid registration as a Medical Laboratory Technician or equivalent; CLIA88 high complexity testing requirements; ASCP certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs moderate and high complexity testing according to procedures with minimal supervision.
• Post-analytical validation of results, investigates deviations and applies corrective actions.
• Performs quality control testing and document control according to policies.
• Conducts pre-analytical steps including patient ID, phlebotomy, labeling, and specimen handling.
• Operates, maintains and troubleshoots laboratory equipment.
• Communicates effectively to provide outstanding customer service.

Summary

Analyzes, interprets, and validates laboratory procedures of various complexities on biological material such as blood, body fluids, and tissues for Virtua customers.

Position Responsibilities

• Performs moderate and high complexity testing accurately and precisely according to established procedure without direct supervision.
• Post analytically, validates results using established indicators, investigates deviations from the norm, recognizes trends or shifts, and applies corrective action.
• Performs, reviews and documents all quality control according to established policies and procedures.
• Performs pre‑analytical processes including patient ID, phlebotomy, specimen labeling, specimen verification, receipt and shipment.
• Correctly operates, maintains and troubleshoots laboratory equipment as required.
• Provides Outstanding Customer Service by demonstrating effective and appropriate communication and interpersonal skills.

Position Qualifications Required / Experience Required

Externship- 4-6 months, good interpersonal and time management skills

Required Education

Associate’s degree in laboratory science area.

Training/Certifications/Licensure

Valid registration as a Medical Laboratory Technician or equivalent or meets CLIA88 requirements for high complexity testing. ASCP certification preferred.
