Responsibilities

The MSW in hospice provides medical social services under the direction of a physician and Interdisciplinary Group to help understand social and emotional factors affecting the patient's health and develop coping mechanisms.

• Assist patients, families, physicians, and healthcare staff in understanding social, emotional, and environmental factors related to health status.
• Contribute to developing a comprehensive, integrated Plan of Care for patients daily.
• Instruct healthcare team members on community resources to assist patients as needed.
• Function as Bereavement Coordinator and supervise bereavement services, establishing a plan addressing bereavement needs for up to 13 months post-death, if needed.

Education and Experience

License Requirements

• Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited school.
• One year of social work experience in healthcare.
• Current CPR certification.
• Valid Driver's License, vehicle insurance, and access to reliable transportation.

Additional State-Specific Requirements

• LA: Must be licensed by the LA State Board of Social Work Examiners and have documented clinical experience suitable for counseling terminally ill patients.
