City Care is looking for compassionate, dependable team members who want to make a difference in the lives of people experiencing homelessness and complex medical needs.

As a Medical Shelter Support Worker, you'll help create a safe, clean, welcoming, and supportive environment for people who need a place to recover and focus on their well-being.

This is a hands-on, entry-level opportunity for someone who enjoys helping others, working as part of a team, and keeping daily operations running smoothly. You do not need to be a medical professional to get started. Training is provided to help you learn the role, build your skills, and take on additional responsibilities as you grow.

If you're organized, adaptable, comfortable working with people from different backgrounds, and ready to do meaningful work, we'd love to meet you!

Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties Upon Entry

You’ll learn the day-to-day operations of our Medical Respite program and help ensure participants have a safe, clean, and supportive place to stay.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participate in shift reports and communicate important updates about Medical Respite participants.

  • Help maintain accountability for participant whereabouts.

  • Conduct routine safety checks and screenings of participants and their belongings according to program procedures.

  • Complete assigned cleaning and housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.

  • Coordinate housekeeping and environmental services (EVS), laundry, and meal needs.

  • Help maintain inventory and organization of program supplies.

  • Assist with scheduling medical appointments for participants.

  • Provide support to team members and participants as needed.

  • Work collaboratively with coworkers to maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment.

Additional Duties When Trained

  • As you complete training and gain experience, you may take on additional responsibilities, including:

  • Conducting wellness checks with Medical Respite participants.

  • Assisting with participant intake and orientation.

  • Supporting assessments for program entry and exit.

  • Helping participants connect with appropriate services and community resources.

  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

Skills and Experience

You don't have to know everything on day one. We're looking for someone who is willing to learn, works well with others, and approaches people with dignity and compassion.

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • An understanding of, or willingness to learn about, the challenges associated with homelessness, poverty, mental health, substance use, and recovery.

  • The ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

  • The ability to multitask, adapt to changing needs, and follow established procedures.

  • Basic computer skills and attention to detail when entering information.

  • A dependable, responsible approach to work.

  • A commitment to treating participants, coworkers, and community partners with respect.

  • The ability to work collaboratively toward shared goals.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Reliable transportation.

  • At City Care, we believe in rewarding growth and commitment. Team members have opportunities to develop their skills, receive additional training, and pursue internal advancement.

  • Hands-on training is provided to help you learn the position's daily responsibilities.

  • Additional duties and responsibilities become available as you complete training and gain experience.

  • Internal mobility opportunities, pay increases, and training bonuses are available based on applicable program requirements, training completion, and tenure.

Whether you're beginning your career in human services or looking for a meaningful opportunity to support your community, this position offers the chance to learn new skills while making a difference in the lives of others.
