Job summary

Volunteers-of-America in Camden, NJ is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join our addiction treatment program. The role supports medication orders, patient care, and HIPAA compliance under the Nursing Director.

You will interact with clients and staff, maintain medical records, perform weekly audits, and coordinate with the treatment team to ensure safe, therapeutic care. A NJ driver license and willingness to work flexible hours are required; bilingual is a plus.

Qualifications

• Must be CMA (or equivalent) with state certification.
• At least three years working with mental health population.
• Must possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, which may include some weekends and evenings.
• Bilingual a Plus.

Responsibilities

• Interact verbally and nonverbally with all clients, staff, and outside contacts professionally with respect and courtesy.
• Maintain client and staff confidentiality in compliance with administrative policies and procedures.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings, supervisory conferences, training sessions and meetings as required; coordinate and review assessments for BH services as they pertain to client’s physical and medical status.
• Medical Nursing Assistant is required to complete weekly medication audits and report discrepancies to the Nursing Director.
• Work with the treatment team to provide consistently therapeutic milieu.
• Review all medical consults and physicals, alerting Nursing Director of issues/concerns.
• Refer clients to medical appointments deemed necessary.
• Participate in required annual trainings and privacy policy updates to meet HIPAA.
• Establish and maintain medical files and histories for each resident and update annually.
• Monitor client self-administration of medications.
• Assist agency staff in setting self-administration goals.
• Inform Nursing Director of medication errors.
• Act as liaison with pharmacy provider.
• Other duties as assigned.

Description

General Functions:

The employee in this classification shall possess a certification of a medical occupation. The employee will report to the Nursing Director. Participates in client treatment regimen, including medication orders and monitoring. Maintain compliance to state regulations and all reporting procedures. Participates and ensures the HIPAA compliance regarding privacy of medical records. This job description may not include all assigned duties, responsibilities, or aspects of the job described. Scope of Duties:

• 1. Interact verbally and nonverbally with all clients, staff, and outside contacts professionally with respect and courtesy.

• 3. Attend and participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings, supervisory conferences, training sessions and meetings as required. Coordinate and review all assessments for BH Services as they pertain to client's physical and medical status in a confidential manner.
• 5.Medical Nursing Assistant is required to complete weekly medication audits to ensure accuracy and report any discrepancies to the Nursing Director.
• 6. Will work with the treatment team to provide consistently therapeutic milieu.

• 9. Participate in on-going training for staff and clients on prescribed medication/medical signs, symptoms side effects and other relevant issues for this population.

• 11. Responsible for the monitoring of client's self-administration of medications.
• 12. Assist agency staff in setting self-administration of medications goals for each resident.
• 13. Inform Nursing Director of medication errors.
• 14. Act as agency liaison with pharmacy provider.
• 15. Participate in required annual trainings.
• 16. Work closely with Nursing Director on ensuring that the Information Technology Department assists with and updates privacy policies to meet HIPPA.
• 17. Other duties as assigned.

ADA Essential Functions:

• 1. Regularly required to stand and walk.
• 2. Occasionally lift and move up to 25 lbs.
• 3. Ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes remain fixed on a given point.

Credentials/Abilities:

Must be Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or three years working with mental health population. Working knowledge of social learning theory, cognitive-behavioral intervention and approaches, assessment and evaluation. Must possess good written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to work collaborate with various groups. Must possess a valid New Jersey driver's license, be able to meet agency driver standards and have access to personal transportation. Willingness to work flexible hours, which may include some weekends and evenings. Bilingual a Plus.
