Job summary

Baton-Rouge-Genera is seeking a part-time medical transcriptionist to transcribe dictated medical reports for inclusion in patient records. You will transcribe a variety of reports with high accuracy and maintain patient confidentiality.

Essential duties include prioritizing dictation, ensuring correct spelling and terminology, safeguarding equipment, and supporting physicians during examinations as needed. Proficiency in English grammar and medical terminology is required.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a four-year undergraduate program majoring in pre-med or related field.
• Knowledge of English grammar, spelling and medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Transcribes a variety of medical reports including histories, physicals, consultations, progress notes, operative/procedure reports, discharge summaries, transfer summaries and other medical reports.
• Transcribes dictation in order of priority as assigned by the supervisor.
• Safeguards and preserves the confidentiality of records in accordance with departmental policy.
• Demonstrates the ability to maintain all equipment in safe and proper working condition.
• Maintains an acceptable base level of minutes typed per day, according to department standards.
• Ensures accuracy of processed reports as to spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, appropriate format and medical terminology.
• Demonstrates knowledge of medical terminology and records patient and physician identification with accuracy.
• Scribes for physicians during examinations and treatments of patients.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
