Job Description Summary
Responsible for greeting donors at the plasma collection center and conducting registration procedures to verify donor suitability for the plasma pheresis process.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist qualified donors in completing the screening process in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This includes assessing health history, answering medical questions, referring donors to medical staff when needed, and performing health screenings such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, and temperature. Perform finger sticks to obtain hematocrit and total protein levels.
- After appropriate training, educate new donors about therapeutic products made from plasma, including explaining the screening process, health tests, appointment system, donation fees, policies, nutrition, and other relevant information. Ensure all donor questions are answered professionally and accurately.
- Register applicants and transfer donors as trained and based on operational needs.
- Answer telephone inquiries or transfer calls to appropriate staff.
- Monitor donors during and after the pheresis process for reactions and notify staff if necessary.
- Alert supervisors of donor flow issues.
- Accurately record donor data in the electronic management system as per SOPs.
- Understand policies related to hyperimmune programs if applicable.
- Maintain a clean, efficient work environment and ensure availability of supplies and forms. Follow all health, safety, and environmental policies, promoting safety at all times.
- Maintain confidentiality of personnel, donor, and center information.
- Cross-train in other areas as needed.
- Possibly utilize bilingual skills if required by the organization.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum three months experience in clerical or customer service roles, preferably in a healthcare setting, or equivalent education and experience.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations.
Working Conditions
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Must be able to see, speak with customers, and observe equipment operation.
- Stand and walk up to 100% of the time; reach, bend, kneel, and have manual dexterity.
- Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Work in a fast-paced environment with interruptions.
- Exposure to chemicals, extreme temperatures, and blood-borne pathogens.
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment as required.
- Work overtime and extended hours as needed.
