Job description

Job Description Summary

This position focuses on disease states (e.g., prostate cancer, neuroendocrine tumors, etc.) being treated by Novartis’ Radioligand Therapies.

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) role is a field-based, customer-facing, non-promotional medical and scientific position. The MSL’s key objective is to create impact through advancing clinical practice within the assigned territory that leads to improved patient outcomes. The MSL must demonstrate deep therapeutic expertise, understand territory and market influences, engage scientifically with Healthcare Providers (HCPs) and medical experts, manage and develop their territory, and execute all relevant activities in alignment with the medical strategic and tactical plan—while functioning within the Novartis Code of Conduct, Ethics/Compliance policies, and Working Practice documents. The MSL will inform and shape medical strategy through application of a curious mindset to collect impactful and actionable insights, understanding the potential strategic impact of critical insights.

This territory will cover DC, DE, East VA, and MD. The preferred location for the successful candidate is within the greater DC area. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the territory border; relocation is not available.

Role Responsibilities
  1. The MSL will leverage scientific expertise and market knowledge to establish and build professional relationships and engage with HCPs (including community physicians, pharmacists, medical experts, nurses, and other healthcare professionals) and thought leaders in the geographical area, aligned with medical strategy.
  2. The primary responsibility is to engage with customers through activities such as emerging data discussions, clinical trial activities, understanding barriers in the patient journey, exploring market dynamics, identifying unmet medical needs, pipeline discussions, educating on disease states and products, capturing adverse events, and gathering medical insights throughout the product lifecycle.
  3. Must demonstrate strategic territory vision, ensuring appropriate identification, mapping, and planning of Medical Engagements (MEs) and Key Accounts in collaboration with internal colleagues. This includes:
  • Identifying key stakeholders influencing the patient journey and disease space throughout the product development lifecycle to establish educational and engagement strategies.
  • Identifying partnership opportunities with academic centers, centers of excellence, and systems of care to impact the territory.
  • Recognizing opportunities to involve HCPs or MEs when specific medical needs are identified (e.g., publications, clinical trial participation).
  • Collaborating internally with other Novartis stakeholders to advance therapeutic area, clinical, or product goals.
  • Provide clinical trial support for company-sponsored trials, facilitating relevant medical activities and working cross-functionally with Medical Affairs and Clinical Operations colleagues.
  • Collaborate regularly and effectively with internal teams (e.g., HEOR, access, marketing, commercial, sales) within the therapeutic area and territory to promote clinical practice and maintain a customer-centric, compliant approach.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of the therapeutic area and Novartis products to serve as a medical resource to customers and colleagues.
  • Stay informed of internal policies and external regulations affecting responsibilities.
  • Complete administrative tasks and training promptly, including CRM profiling and up-to-date documentation.
  • Champion emerging responsibilities as priorities and territory needs evolve.
  • Proactively pursue personal and professional development.
  • Compensation and Benefits

The pay range at start of employment is approximately $166,400 - $249,600 for Managers and $183,200 - $274,800 for ADs, with potential fluctuations based on market conditions, location, experience, and skills. The total package may include bonuses, stock units, and other benefits such as medical and retirement plans. Final salary decisions depend on various factors. Employment is at-will, and the company reserves the right to modify compensation.

    Qualifications

Education: Graduate degree in science or healthcare required; doctoral degree preferred (MD, PhD, DNP, PharmD, etc.).

    Experience:

    • For Manager Level: 0-3 years in a Field Medical role or 3-5 years in medical affairs/clinical research; relevant therapeutic area experience preferred.
    • For AD Level: Minimum 3 years in a Field Medical role or 5-7 years in medical affairs/clinical research; relevant therapeutic area experience preferred.

All levels require strong clinical knowledge, adherence to legal and ethical standards, and the ability to work within compliance policies. The role is field-based, covering the specified territory, with approximately 60-70% travel expected.
