Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a detail-oriented Release of Information Clerk to support the Medical Records Department across Allentown and Bethlehem campuses. You will handle requests, verify authorizations, log activities, and ensure HIPAA compliance while coordinating with multiple hospital departments.

The role requires accuracy in data entry, familiarity with RHIT/AHIMA standards, and the ability to manage confidential information in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Qualifications

• AHIMA approved RHIT program or two year legal secretarial program preferred
• Experience in confidentiality/release of information areas preferred
• Minimum of 1 year in the field preferred
• Sitting for up to 7 hours per day, 3 hours at a time
• Occasional standing/walking up to 1 hour per day
• Must complete application using full legal name and current home address
• Include employment history for the past seven years, including present employer

Responsibilities

• Process all release of information requests
• Coordinate requests from the Finance Department and other hospital departments
• Process release of Radiology film and reports for Allentown and Bethlehem campuses
• Maintain the computerized release of information system and log all release-of-information activities
• Act as hospital custodian of medical records for depositions, court proceedings and legal matters
• Maintain and control fax machines and CD burners
• Order supplies for copy machines, fax machines and CD burners
• Coordinate release-of-information procedures with the outside service used for billable requests
• Coordinate the entire release-of-information process among inpatient and outpatient records
• Liaise between the Medical Records Department and risk manager regarding attorney requests, court orders, subpoenas, litigation and potential risk areas
• Log requests upon receipt for processing
• Maintain and update the computerized correspondence tracking system
• Ensure all requests are logged in the system
• Adhere to HIPAA regulations and regulations concerning HIV/AIDS, psychiatric patients, and drug and alcohol patients
• Verify authorization validity and return invalid authorizations
• Respond to telephone requests from patient care units, emergency department and other department customers
