Job summary

The Correspondence Technician at St. Luke’s University Health Network coordinates the release of information requests across departments and maintains the electronic tracking system.

You will handle radiology film and report releases for Allentown and Bethlehem campuses, and liaison with the outside service for billable requests. We seek a detail‑oriented team member familiar with HIPAA regulations, who can ensure valid authorizations, respond to phone requests, and support risk‑management

Qualifications

• AHIMA–approved RHIT or two-year legal secretarial program preferred
• Working experience in confidentiality/release of information areas preferred
• Minimum of 1 year in the field preferred

Responsibilities

• Responsible for and coordinates the entire release of information process among the inpatient and outpatient records
• Acts as liaison between the Medical Records Department and risk manager when dealing with attorney requests; court orders; subpoenas; litigation and/or other potential risk areas
• Coordinates release of information procedures with outside service utilized for all billable requests
• Logs requests upon receipt for processing
• Maintains and keeps current the computerized correspondence tracking system
• Ensures that all requests are logged in the system
• Adheres to HIPAA regulations regarding release of information
• Adheres to regulations for release of information as it relates to HIV/AIDS; psychiatric patients; drug and alcohol patients
• Ascertain the validity of authorizations received in the department; returns invalid authorizations
• Responds to telephone requests from patient care units, emergency department and other department customers
