Job summary

Mohawk Valley Health System is hiring a Medical Records Coder I in Utica, NY to improve documentation, data quality and revenue cycle operations. The coder assigns ICD-10-CM/PCS codes according to guidelines to support accurate billing.

The role requires collaboration with providers, auditing charges and handling denials while maintaining compliant coding practices and timely documentation updates. This position is full-time with daytime shifts.

Qualifications

• AS in Health Information Management or related degree or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of EMR, Coding Software, and Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge/understanding of modifiers, medical necessity & CCI edits.
• Good Oral and Written Communication.

Responsibilities

• Assign diagnosis and procedure codes, for accurate and timely billing of most appropriate payer
• Audit charges and establish proper coding in collaboration with providers
• Initiate and follow up on queries with providers
• Assist departments with diagnostic and procedural coding
• Respond to Insurance, compliance and RAC denials
• Review and assist in the maintenance of coding related policies and procedures
• Perform other duties as required.
