All of our doctors are board-certified in gastroenterology and hepatology. Several of them serve as chief of gastroenterology at nearby hospitals, and a number of them have been recognized as top-quality physicians in publications, including but not limited to: Best Doctors in America and Top Doctors New Jersey, and US News Health – US News & World Report.
We are excited to announce that we are looking for a Full-Time Medical Receptionist at our North Shore Gastroenterology Office in Great Neck, NY.
SUMMARY:
The Office Receptionist is responsible for registration & discharge of patient visits, scheduling appointments & procedures, reviewing & initiating authorization of orders & medications, insurance verification & referral management, cash & payment handling, and patient education & health outreach of all Gastroenterologist(s) and their patient population.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Acts as the “face” of the office being the first form of in-person interaction between patients and staff
- Positively impacts patient experience & increases patient retention with exemplary attentiveness
- Professionally communicates with physicians, staff, and vendors & accurately documents in patient charts
- Independently addresses and/or escalates patient complaints; knows when appropriate to seek another resource
- Securely navigates through EMR & multiple portals managing patient accounts, billing, and records
- Confirms & creates, cancels & reschedules appointments; ensures documentation for recall follow up
- Warmly welcomes & admits patients during registration confirming patient demographics & obtaining consents
- Confidently discharges patients answering questions, providing medical records, & patient education forms
- Manages same-day appointment schedule of 100+ patients including missed appointments, late arrivals, etc.
- Adheres to finance protocols while collecting copays & balances, handling cash & checks, and reconciling deposits
- Obtains insurance eligibility and referrals for appointments preventing any Surprise Bills
- Maintains cleanliness & pristine appearance of workspace and shared patient spaces
- Performs other duties & specialized tasks or projects as requested by physicians, supervisors, or managers
- Additional clerical responsibilities including mailing paperwork, faxing, scanning, and copying
- Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service trainings
- Abides by policies, procedures, guidelines, rules, testing, security administration and confidentiality of the Patients and Practice under the guidelines of OSHA and HIPAA Laws safeguards
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
- Comfortable multi-tasking with sharp attention to detail; strong time management & organizational skills
- Demonstrates exemplary customer service; remain patient, courteous, and professional in stressful situations
- Excellent interpersonal skills with strong ability to exercise discretion and tact in patient & staff interactions
- Displays consistent positive & polite approach; ability to hold oneself accountable for actions
- Confident payment handling skills & cash/check draw maintenance or ability to be trained
- Computer skills or ability to be trained including EMR platforms, portals, data entry, typing, etc.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn office policies, medical procedures, insurance, etc.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA Laws & safeguards or ability to be trained; ability to always follow these guidelines
REQUIREMENTS:
- High School graduate or GED
- 1-2 years of clerical, medical office experience required; gastroenterology experience preferred
- Reliable form of transportation to/from work; local travel or working out of other offices may be expected
- Physical demands listed below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform
the essential functions of this job:
- Regularly required to see with visual acuity, talk or hear
- Frequently required to stand or sit or walk for extended periods of time; walk
- Occasionally to lift office and medical products and supplies up to 50 pounds.
- Providing light physical assistance to a patient while escorting him or her around the office

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Setting: Operates in a professional medical office environment routinely using standard office equipment such as
computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. ** Remote work is not available for this position
- Dress Attire: Requires scrubs in the color of navy blue or grey. ** Uniform purchases are not reimbursed by the office. After
30 days of employment, NSGA will partially cover the cost of an acceptable uniform provided by ADH.
- Days/Hours: Operates Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 5:00pm. Employee schedule is determined by the needs
