Job summary

Lancaster Family Health Center in Salem, OR is seeking a Medical Receptionist to serve as the first point of contact for patients. You will greet visitors, register patients, schedule appointments, verify insurance, and help patients navigate care and billing processes.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Answers the phone, transfers calls and takes messages for the clinic.
  • Greet patients and maintain logs; provide translation as needed.
  • Ensure data and forms are complete; create and update patient charts.
  • Schedule appointments per guidelines; notify providers of no-shows and cancellations.
  • Verify insurance eligibility; assist patients with questions about plans.
  • Handle questions via in-person, phone, and patient portal communications.

Position Highlights:
  • 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week)
  • $18.62-$22.81/hour DOE with the ability to go higher for highly experienced candidates
  • Additional pay for your bilingual skills, paid on hours worked

What You’ll Do:
  • Answers the phone, transfers calls and takes messages as needed for the clinic
  • Greet patients and maintain patient and visitor logs. Notifies appropriate person of the patient’s arrival. Provides translation services as needed to patients
  • Ensures accurate and complete data and forms are collected for all patients. Creates and maintains patient charts, registering new patients and updating patient data in the computer
  • Schedules patient appointments according to scheduling guidelines, appointment type, and time needed. Notifies appropriate Provider of all patient no-shows and cancellations. Adjusts and updates the schedule for cancellations, new patients and recall appointments
  • Verifies patient’s insurance eligibility and obtains and files insurance documentation. Assists patients with questions regarding insurance plans as needed
  • Reviews and responds to patients’ questions in person, via phone, and patient portal systems
  • May perform routine billing functions such as posting patient encounters, encouraging payment, taking payments and generating end-of-day reports
  • Reviews cash box receipts and reconciles cash box daily
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year's experience as a Receptionist in a clinic preferred
  • This position is eligible for Bilingual Differential Compensation when an ALTA score of 9 is achieved
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) speaking skills required at a level 9
  • Ability to prioritize work and handle a variety of tasks simultaneously, with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to interact with patients, Providers and staff in a professional manner
  • Ability to deliver outstanding customer service
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology desired
  • Basic knowledge of healthcare billing insurance desired
  • Basic proficiency with a variety of computer programs including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
