Job description

Responsibilities

The Medical Receptionist is the first point of contact for our patients, responsible for greeting, registering, and scheduling appointments. They verify insurance eligibility and benefits, collect co-payments, and obtain routine financial information to arrange payment plans and Medicare coverage. They also answer phone calls and serve as a primary information source for patients in the waiting area. Additionally, they obtain complex financial information for payment plans, charity care, Medicare, and alternative financing, and verify coverage. May obtain prior authorizations for visits or testing, enter charge data as required, and perform other duties as assigned.

  • Perform clerical duties such as maintaining deposit logs, preparing schedules and reports, and managing provider schedules
  • Ensure a positive customer service environment in reception areas
  • Oversee the waiting area
  • Answer phones in a pleasant and helpful manner
  • Coordinate patient movement and report issues or irregularities
  • Maintain knowledge of multi-line phone systems
  • Use computers, fax, and copy machines proficiently
  • Complete full patient registration in IDX, ensuring all information is current and accurate, and verify insurance details
  • Obtain, verify, and update patient demographic and insurance information
  • Support patients and medical staff as needed
Qualifications

Minimum: Basic computer skills required

Preferred: High School Diploma or GED, previous medical office and/or insurance experience, bilingual skills
