Position Summary
Sovah Health is looking for the ideal candidate who will contribute to the overall operations to the medical practice, and provides outstanding patient care.
- Labels, processes and delivers specimens for testing.
- Collects and processes human samples according to specimen collection and processing protocols.
- Performs the delivery of care in accordance with quality and infection control standards.
- Maintains equipment and appropriate inventory of medical supplies.
- Verifies patient and specimen identification with two identifiers before performing any procedure.
- Obtains urine specimens, label, and prepare for lab analysis.
- Centrifuges and stores blood samples for subsequent testing.
- Allocates the appropriate amount of specimen to the appropriate tubes for the different tests and panels.
- Take vitals (blood pressure, weight, height, temperature, respirations, and document in ONCOmed
- Evaluates patient for pain, nausea, and chronic tiredness, document in ONCOmed
- Review medication list (current and stopped)
- Assist doctor with bone marrow biopsies
- Complete all paperwork and documentation for bone marrow kits, package and label for shipment via FEDEX
- Order refreshments and replenish stock for patient areas.
- Monitor refrigerators daily and maintain log for correct temperature
- Restock medical supplies in exam rooms
- Upload patient pictures into patient chart
- Scan outside records into patient chart for current patients under treatment.
- Complete all new patient information in ONCOmed
- Supply and hookup oxygen for patients on oxygen
- Perform oxygen tests
- Take specimens to lab
- Enter all lab orders for next day appointments
- Clean all equipment daily
- Perform manual blood pressures as needed
- Assist in rectal and breast exams
- Consult with doctor for passing diagnosis codes of failing labwork
- Stay with patient after procedure before cleared to leave clinic
- Research reason for patient visit and update ONCOmed
- Ensure all required paperwork, tests are entered into ONCOmed prior to doctor seeing patient.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education
High school diploma or equivalent required
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Requires flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns including week-ends and holidays to ensure appropriateness and continuity of care for the patients of Sovah Health Danville.
Ability to perform routine venipuncture and skin puncture.
Healthcare Provider BLS American Heart Association required
PBT (ASCP or ASPT) or equivalent obtained within two years of employment preferred
Minimum Work Experience
Minimum of one (1) year medical practice and phlebotomist experience preferred.
