The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a Faculty Medical Physicist for its Radiation Oncology Department, located in Chapel Hill, NC. The successful candidate will engage in clinical duties including providing radiation therapy physics services and have opportunities for research and teaching within the Department.
The ideal applicant will hold a PhD in Medical Physics or related fields, have board certification or eligibility, and be a graduate of a CAMPEP-accredited residency program. A commitment to research and mentoring residents is also essential for this position.
The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of North Carolina is seeking a faculty medical physicist for the North Carolina Cancer Center, a member of the UNC Health Care system, located in Chapel Hill, NC. The North Carolina Cancer Center is currently staffed with 13 Radiation Oncologists, 7 Dosimetrists, 12 Medical Physicists, and 1 IT specialist. The clinic is equipped with multiple accelerators and treatment systems including Elekta Versa, Varian TrueBeam, CyberKnife, Mobetron, Elekta HDR, VariSeed LDR, Philips CT simulator, and MR‑simulator. Clinical treatment planning systems include Raystation, Accuray Precision, Oncentra HDR, VariSeed LDR, and Record & Verify uses Mosaiq. Ancillary systems include VisionRT. The ideal candidate will engage in a wide range of clinical, research, and teaching duties within the Department and School of Medicine.
Clinical Duties: Provide clinical radiation therapy physics services for UNC’s IMRT/VMAT, IGRT, SBRT, SRS and brachytherapy programs. Perform staff physicist duties such as chart checking, machine calibrations, and quality assurance. Oversee and direct junior staff during acceptance and commissioning of equipment, gathering of dosimetry data, and external beam and brachytherapy treatment planning. Ensure precise and accurate delivery of radiation treatment plans and patient & staff safety.
The successful candidate must be motivated to actively pursue research opportunities with the potential to secure extramural funding. A strong interest in pursuing academic research is crucial to this position.
The department supports a CAMPEP‑accredited Medical Physics Residency Program and mentoring of residents is expected.
