Job description

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a leading public university dedicated to innovative teaching and research. The Department of Radiation Oncology is seeking a secondary faculty proton medical physicist for the North Carolina Cancer Center.

Position Summary

The position supports the upcoming Mevion S250-FIT Proton Therapy System and provides clinical and research services in proton therapy physics.

Responsibilities

• Under the supervision of the lead proton faculty physicist, perform acceptance and commissioning of the Mevion S250-FIT system, acquisition of dosimetry data, and commissioning of proton treatment planning in RayStation.
• Provide clinical proton therapy physics services once the system is operational, ensuring accurate and safe delivery of treatments and maintaining safety for patients and staff.
• Collaborate with project management and stakeholders to establish necessary infrastructure, workflows, policies, and procedures.
• Engage in research activities related to proton therapy.
• Mentor residents in the CAMPEP-accredited Medical Physics Residency Program.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

• MS/PhD in Medical Physics, Physics, Engineering, or related field.
• ABR/ABMP board certified or board eligible (Part 1 passed).
• Graduate of a CAMPEP-accredited residency program.
• Experience in proton therapy physics (junior level acceptable).
