Job summary

Decypher is seeking a Medical Office Clerk to be the first point of contact for patients, handling scheduling, phone communications, and access to care. You will maintain accurate medical records and support providers with administrative tasks to ensure efficient clinic operations.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, BLS certification, and at least 6 months of office experience. U.S. citizenship is required for this on-site role at a government-affiliated healthcare site.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and visitors at the front desk and direct them as needed.

  • Manage and file patient records and ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Initiate and locate patient medical records as needed and obtain documentation.
  • Support clinicians with administrative tasks and ensure smooth clinic operations.

Job Summary: The Medical Office Clerk serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors by providing exceptional customer service, scheduling appointments, managing phone communications, and coordinating patient access to healthcare services. This role maintains accurate medical records, supports healthcare providers with administrative and clerical functions, ensures the integrity of appointment and patient record systems, and contributes to the efficient daily operation of the medical clinic.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalency.
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • License: N/A
  • Experience: At least 6 months of experience in an office setting.

U.S. Citizenship is required

Qualifications:

  • A fully qualified typist with a minimum of 50 WPM is required.
  • General medical ethics, telephone etiquette, and excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • General office administrative and clerical skills to perform receptionist duties and answer telephones.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greets patients/visitors at a front desk, information center or office setting.
  • Answers main office phone line. Directs telephone calls to the appropriate section for assistance. Takes messages as required.
  • Arranges and schedules medical appointments and determines patient eligibility for services. Relays general instructions to patients or make referrals to other sections.
  • Obtains updates and files medical records as needed.
  • Organizes and researches patient records, extract needed information, and reviews records for completeness, accuracy, and consistency within established guidelines.
  • Ensures arrival of medical records prior to appointment(s).
  • Initiates and locates patient medical records as needed.
  • Obtains documentation as requested by healthcare providers (test results, or documentation not yet filed in records).
  • Performs other administrative and clerical duties in support of the medical care and operational support.
  • Creates appointment schedules and templates in the patient appointment computer system.
  • Conducts end-of-day process at close of business and resolves any delinquent or pending appointments in the computer system. Greets patients/visitors at a front desk, information center or office setting.

Work Environment & Schedule: On site, Monday to Friday, 730-1630 with a non-compensation hour lunch. Federal holidays are not considered workdays.

Physical requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. However, there may be some physical demands. Requirements include prolonged walking, standing, sitting or bending

Compensation & Benefits: Up to $19.50 per hour + H&W.
