Job description

Job Description

Assists orthopaedic physicians and nursing staff in patient care activities, including assisting with patient flow, taking vitals, injections, DME, casting, suture removal, and other needs. Maintains nurses' stations, exam, and procedure rooms. Performs front desk and clerical duties such as demographic and insurance registration, charge entry, scheduling, and verifying insurance information. Must be fully certified in patient registration and proficient with electronic systems as per department SOPs. Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Medical Assistant certification required
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • Ability to perform all medical assisting responsibilities under state and faculty guidelines
  • 2-3 years related medical office experience
  • Basic accounting principles knowledge
  • PC proficiency
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Accurate data entry skills
  • Knowledge of payer requirements for referrals and pre-authorization
  • Experience with GE, EPIC, or similar billing systems
  • Medical terminology knowledge preferred
  • CPR certification required
Essential Functions
  1. Gather and document brief history and chief complaint in the medical record
  2. Obtain necessary testing based on the chief complaint prior to the exam, following established guidelines
  3. Prepare patients for examinations and perform routine office testing (phlebotomy, sweat and hydration tests, urinalysis, vision, hearing, pulmonary function, vital signs)
  4. Assist providers with procedures and minor surgical procedures
  5. Obtain blood and urine specimens
  6. Administer and document injections and medications
