Corewell Health in Royal Oak, MI is hiring for the Observation Unit at Royal Oak Hospital. This part-time role supports patient care on a 54-bed unit, with 12-hour overnight shifts (6:30 p.m.–7:00 a.m.) and rotating weekends, under the direction of a registered nurse.

About the unit The Medical Observation Unit consists of 54 beds. Patients are categorized as Observation secondary to insurance requirements. This is the medical unit. Patients are admitted from the Emergency Department with mental status changes, long term placement needs, pain, cardiac, TIA, r/o CVA, UTI, pneumonia, geriatric, and behavioral issues. If patients meet criteria for higher level of care they will be transferred to the assigned progressive or inpatient unit. Staff complete an assessment and shift documentation according to the Observation documentation policy. There is rapid patient turnover on this unit between patient discharges and transfers. May complete 1-4 discharge, transfers, and assessments during a 12 Hour shift.

Scope of work Coordinates aspects of patient care by managing communication and clerical tasks essential to the functioning of the unit. In addition to communication and clerical tasks, she/he monitors and stocks supplies. Provides patient care and related functions as delegated by and under the direction of a registered nurse.
