Job summary

Keck Medicine of USC’s Tech-Med Lab seeks a Technician to assist the Clinical Laboratory Scientist by handling routine specimen processing and analysis under direct supervision. The role includes instrument checks, maintenance, quality control, and clerical duties such as answering inquiries and coordinating with outside reference laboratories.

Qualifications

• High school or equivalent required.
• 1 year clinical laboratory experience in an acute care facility or equivalent.
• Excellent communication skills required.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service behavior.
• Knowledge of medical terminology required.

Responsibilities

• Assist CLS with testing procedures under supervision.
• Perform daily checks and maintenance of instruments.
• Conduct manual, semi-automated and automated analyses across biochemical, hematological, microbiological and blood bank specimens.
• Recognize normal, abnormal and critical results and take appropriate action.
• Communicate results and coordinate with department staff and outside laboratories.
• Support quality assurance and ongoing education activities.
• Monitor supplies and assist with inventory as assigned.
• Adhere to safety and infection control guidelines.
