Job summary

Beloit Health System is seeking a Per Diem Medical Laboratory Technician to join the Laboratory team in Beloit, WI. Shifts include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd available with a varied schedule to support patient care needs.

The MLT performs routine and specialized testing across hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, and blood bank, collecting and preparing specimens, operating instruments, and ensuring timely, accurate results with strict quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent in Medical Laboratory Technology or accredited MLT program.
• ASCP MLT certification within one year of hire.
• Knowledge of laboratory procedures, testing methodologies, and quality control practices.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with LIS.
• Experience with automated laboratory instrumentation.
• Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
• Ability to accurately perform laboratory testing and specimen analysis.

Responsibilities

• Perform testing in hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, and blood bank per procedures.
• Collect, receive, process, and prepare patient specimens for analysis.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Perform quality control procedures and document results.
• Verify and report test results within established turnaround times.
• Identify abnormal test results and notify appropriate clinical staff of critical values.
• Maintain records using laboratory information systems (LIS).
• Participate in proficiency testing and quality improvement initiatives.
• Assist with inventory management, stocking supplies, and maintaining a clean laboratory environment.
• Collaborate with laboratory staff, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Knowledge of laboratory procedures, testing methodologies, and quality control practices.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
