GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Technician is a qualified professional with in-depth knowledge of biology, chemistry and various medical equipment. The Med Tech collects and organizes samples for examination and works with medical professionals to ensure results are correct.

JOB DUTIES:

1. Collect and prepare blood, urine and tissue samples for analysis
2. Examine collected samples and identify any cell abnormalities
3. Maintain laboratory inventory levels and if necessary, place orders for new supplies
4. Prepare detailed reports about your test results and findings
5. Document and review tested data
6. Ensure all tissues samples are prepped for examination
7. Collaborate with pathologist and other medical specialists to determine correct diagnosis if cell abnormalities are discovered
8. Maintain a safe and clean working environment by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
9. Maintain confidentiality of all information according to HIPAA and company policy

The Medical Lab Technician assumes other responsibilities as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

1. Analytical ability to apply criteria and evaluate information to make decisions
2. Strong verbal and written communication skills; and excellent interpersonal skills in teaming with patients, medical staff and the public
3. Detail oriented with proven ability to multitask
4. Professional appearance and ease in developing rapport with others
5. Computer skills including MS Office, Outlook, Meditech, preferred
6. Ability to work well in a team or independently, preferred
7. Advanced knowledge of biology and chemistry

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Associate’s Degree of Medical Laboratory Technician or Bachelor’s Degree of Medical Technology, required
2. Medical Technician Certificate, required
3. 2 years’ experience as a Medical Technician, preferred
