Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) provides comprehensive health services to DOS, DOD, and contractor personnel in Iraq. The MLT performs laboratory tests, primarily microscopic, bacteriological, hematologic, immunologic, and chemical analyses on various samples. The role involves analyzing samples to identify disease causes and progression through accurate and efficient testing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect and process biological specimens for testing.
  • Conduct routine and specialized tests in hematology, microbiology, chemistry, and blood banking.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Follow safety protocols and keep the laboratory environment clean.
  • Record and report test results accurately and promptly.
  • Collaborate with medical staff to interpret results and ensure quality care.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by complying with procedures and regulations.
  • Participate in Mass Casualty exercises and events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements/Certifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years recent experience as an MLT, including 6 months within the last year.
  • Certification through ASCP, AMT, NCALP, or AAB.
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English effectively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EMR systems.
  • Experience working on a military site as a subcontractor or prime contractor is preferred.

Education Required:

  • Associate's degree in medical laboratory technology or related field.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must meet pre-deployment physical requirements.
  • Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 25 lbs.

Other Qualifications:

  • US or Permanent Resident Card required.
  • Valid US Passport with at least 18 months before expiration, maintained during deployment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (MRPT).
  • Must be willing to relocate to Iraq for the duration of the project.
  • Proficiency in English communication.
