Job summary

Sanford Health is seeking a Laboratory Professional to manage pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic testing processes. You will follow SOPs and ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance while contributing to a positive work environment.

The role involves specimen collection, processing, and performing clinical laboratory testing using manual and automated methods. Relevant MLS/MLT certifications are required or registry eligible; travel to other locations may be needed.

Qualifications

• MLS: Bachelor's degree in laboratory or biological sciences required.
• National certification for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through an approved agency (e.g., ASCP) or be registry eligible; MT acceptable; must pass Board of Registry exam within 12 months. If ND, licensed by ND Board.
• MLT: Associate degree in Laboratory Science required; national certification for MLT/CLT through an approved agency (e.g., ASCP) or registry eligible; must pass Board of Registry exam within 12 months. If ND, licensed or provisionally licensed by the ND Board. May require BLS.

Responsibilities

• Collect and process laboratory specimens and perform clinical laboratory testing according to SOPs.
• Demonstrate critical and independent judgement in decision-making and problem-solving.
• May travel to other locations; assist in training new staff; serve as a laboratory resource.

Job Description

Collect laboratory specimens, as needed. Process lab specimens and perform clinical laboratory testing, including manual and automated methods, in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures. Demonstrate skill in use of equipment relevant to position.

Demonstrate critical and independent judgement in decision-making and problem-solving. Demonstrate personal commitment to the principles, values, and ethics of the organization to promote a positive work environment. Seek personal learning opportunities. Recognize safety hazards and comply with all safety practices and protocols. Assist in training new staff. Serve as a laboratory resource. Perform other related duties as assigned. May be required to travel to other locations.

Qualifications

• MLS: Bachelors degree in laboratory or biological sciences required.
• Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or be registry eligible. Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) also acceptable. Registry eligible candidates must successfully complete the Board of Registry examination within 12 months of employment. If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• MLT: Associates degree in Laboratory Science required.
• Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or be registry eligible.
