Job Title: Medical Lab Scientist or Medical Lab Technician

UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is hiring a full-time Medical Lab Scientist or Medical Lab Technician to support the Automated Testing Laboratory. We are seeking individuals interested in an evening shift role (3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.), which includes rotating weekend and holiday responsibilities.

Applicants will be placed into the appropriate job title and salary based on their experience and education. The salary for Medical Lab Technicians starts at $22.76/hour.

UPMC is offering a generous sign-on bonus of up to $15,000 for qualifying Medical Lab Technicians and Scientists!

Responsibilities:

1. Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies regarding procedures, methods, quality control, safety, compliance, and personnel policies. Follow established procedures for specimen collection (including phlebotomy, if required) and processing, ensuring sample appropriateness and stability. Perform qualitative and quantitative analyses accurately and efficiently.
2. Recognize critical, abnormal, or unacceptable test results and follow established protocols for follow-up. Identify factors affecting results and initiate corrective actions. Address issues with instrumentation, methodology, specimens, supplies, or results as per protocols.
3. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment within training scope, performing quality control, preventive maintenance, and calibration. Conduct minor repairs as needed. Use reagents and supplies efficiently, monitoring inventory levels.
4. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments, including their interrelationships and physiological influences on test results.
5. Assist with test development, methodology, and equipment evaluation, selection, and implementation.
6. Perform High Complexity Testing as defined by PA DOH without direct supervision.
7. Temporarily assume first-line supervision of the section/department as delegated.
8. Train and orient new employees, students, and residents as assigned.
