Job description

Summary
The Medical Laboratory Scientist I, in their role as Testing Personnel as defined by CLIA, are responsible for specimen processing, test performance, and reporting waived and non-waived test results. Under general supervision, each individual performs only those tests authorized by the laboratory manager, requiring a skill level consistent with their education, training, or experience, and technical abilities.

Essential Functions
  1. Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results after successful completion of orientation, training, and competency assessment on all applicable instruments/methods.
  2. Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are tested similarly to patient samples.
  3. Adhere to quality control policies, document all activities, calibrations, and maintenance performed.
  4. Follow corrective action policies when test systems are not within performance standards, and document all corrective actions taken.
  5. Identify problems affecting test performance or reporting, correct them or notify a supervisor or designated personnel immediately.

Education
Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, or Laboratory Sciences required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree?

Licenses and Credentials
Medical Technologist (ASCP) certification preferred.

Experience
1-2 years of laboratory experience required.

- Basic understanding of laboratory equipment, maintenance, and analytic techniques.

- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
