Providence Centralia Hospital seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform bench duties across multiple sections and to plan, perform, and evaluate laboratory testing with accuracy and efficiency.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in MLS or a related field with clinical rotation, or an MLS-equivalent with appropriate coursework and experience. This position emphasizes communication with medical staff and compliance with lab standards, and it is based on-site in Centralia, WA.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science from an accredited college/university with clinical rotation, or
  • Bachelor's Degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science AND completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Science program, or
  • Bachelor's Degree with 60+ semester/90+ quarter hours including chemistry/biology coursework and at least 3 months full-time clinical experience in all lab areas

Responsibilities

  • Plan, perform and evaluate laboratory testing analyses in assigned sections.
  • Establish and maintain communication with physicians, patients and other hospital personnel.
  • Perform routine and complex tests across Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Chemistry, Microbiology, and other areas as assigned.
  • Work to ensure quality, accuracy, and timely reporting of results.

Description

The position is responsible for professional Medical Laboratory Scientist bench duties within the laboratory, for the assigned section(s). The position performs routine and complex tests or analyses in any of these potential sections (as assigned): Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Chemistry, Toxicology, Microbiology, Molecular, Mycology, Immunohematology, LIS and Lean. The position has responsibility for planning, performing and evaluating laboratory testing analysis; and establishing and/or maintaining communications with physicians, patients, other hospital personnel, professional associations, and other organizations. Bachelor's degree level position with applicants who obtained education outside of the United States must have their education evaluated for equivalency by an Acceptable Evaluation Agency for Foreign Transcripts.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science from an accredited college/university that included clinical rotation or

  • Bachelor's Degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science AND completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Science program or

  • Bachelor's Degree with completion of 60 semester/90 quarter hours from an accredited college/university that includes a minimum of 6 semester/9 quarter hours of chemistry, 6 semester/9 quarter hours of biology, and 12 semester/18 quarter hours of other chemistry, biology, and/or medical laboratory science courses AND at least three months full time clinical experience in all laboratory areas.

  • Upon hire: National Medical Technologist - American Society for Clinical Pathology or

  • Upon hire: National Medical Technologist - American Medical Technologists or

  • Upon hire: National Medical Laboratory Scientist - American Society for Clinical Pathology or

  • Upon hire: National Medical Laboratory Scientist - American Medical Technologist.

  • 1 year in a clinical laboratory performing moderate and high complexity testing.

The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
