Job description

Job Summary / Purpose

Accurately analyzes and reports all tests ordered by the Medical Staff in a timely manner and according to laboratory procedures and regulatory guidelines to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Acts as a team leader by assisting and guiding staff in decision-making, and by taking on additional responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Performs and reports waived, moderately complex, and highly complex test procedures on patient specimens following Standard Operating Procedures to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  2. Provides excellent patient care through clinical correlation of results, identification of bias patterns, rapid notification of caregivers of critical values, and completion of testing within turnaround times.
  3. Acts as a group leader, assisting staff to ensure smooth workflow.
  4. Maintains major automated equipment through maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and contacting vendors for repairs.
  5. Trains and mentors new employees and students.
  6. Performs calibration, quality control, and proficiency testing, maintaining accurate records.
  7. Assists with test and equipment validation, training, and documentation.
  8. Participates in continuing education to enhance skills.
  9. Manages inventory, including monitoring, ordering, and storing supplies.
  10. Ensures smooth shift transitions and complete work documentation.
  11. Communicates professionally with all stakeholders, adhering to regulatory standards.
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's Degree in biological or chemical sciences as defined by CLIA.
  2. Minimum 2 years experience in a clinical laboratory.
  3. Licensure and Certifications as required by state (e.g., CLS:CA, GENSUP:NV, MT-L:ND, MT ASCP or equivalent).
  4. Preferred certifications include MLS (ASCP) or equivalent.
  5. Appropriate training in clinical laboratory science.
Additional Information

Offers $10,000 sign-on bonus and up to $10,000 relocation assistance. The position is full-time, with pay range $27.77 - $40.27/hour. Located at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, a leader in healthcare innovation and research.
