Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist to join the laboratory team. You will verify sample identification, assess acceptability, and perform complex tests across chemistry, microbiology, hematology, immunology, microscopy, and bacteriology in accordance with established procedures.

You will operate automated equipment, conduct QC and maintenance, document results into the LIS, and communicate critical findings to providers while supporting inventory,

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree with a concentration in science.
• ASCP/AMT certification preferred but not required; eligible for promotion after certification.
• Analytic ability to perform moderately complex tests, interpret findings, perform calculations, calibrate & troubleshoot instruments.
• Ability to identify and evaluate clinical testing problems and implement corrective actions.
• Manual dexterity and acuity to prepare specimens, screen specimens, prepare solutions, and operate instrumentation/computers.
• Ability to concentrate, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
• Strong English verbal and written communication.
• Venipuncture proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Verify sample identification, assess sample acceptability and order appropriateness.
• Prepare specimens and perform complex chemical, biological, hematological, immunologic, microscopic, and/or bacteriological tests.
• Run automated equipment and instruments; perform start-up, QC, calibration, and maintenance per protocol.
• Enter results into LIS and report critical/urgent results per policy.
• Assist with inventory management to maintain adequate supplies; ensure accuracy of results.
• Participate in QA/QI projects and contribute to staff education and training.
