Job summary

Florida Department of Health in Miami seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist I to perform complex lab procedures with independent judgment, including HIV NAAT and serology testing. A valid Florida Public Health Technician license is required; a Bachelor’s of Science is preferred.

This position requires on-call duties, strict QC/QA, specimen handling, inventory management, and adherence to state biosafety policies.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Florida Public Health Technician license.
• Experience with HIV-1 NAAT and serology is preferred.
• Willingness to work on-call and weekends/holidays as needed.
• Ability to login, sort, and centrifuge specimens.
• Maintain quality control and proficiency testing.

Responsibilities

• Perform HIV-1 NAAT testing per protocol.
• Perform serology testing when required.
• Handle specimens: login, sorting and centrifuging.
• Respond to on-call requirements during weekends/holidays.
• Maintain inventory and dispose medical waste per protocol.
• Attend staff meetings and required training.
