Job summary

WellSpan Health in York, PA seeks a Laboratory Tech to perform a range of technical and general duties in one or more laboratory divisions. The role is full-time with an evening shift from 3:00p to 11:30p; essential to support patient care with accurate testing and data entry.

Required are a Bachelor’s or higher in medical technology or related science, CAP-mandated credentials, and completion of clinical rotations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in medical technology or related science required.
• College diploma as part of CAP requirements due within 6 months of hire.
• College transcript required within 6 months of hire.
• Certification as MLS/MT/MLT or equivalent within 1 year.
• Completion of student clinical rotations required.
• Medical technology background or related science required.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and/or specialized testing and procedures with supervision as appropriate.
• Operates a variety of laboratory instruments and records results.
• Performs quality control and instrument check procedures and maintains records.
• Inoculates, cultivates, and identifies microorganisms in specimens to inform treatment.
• May determine blood donor compatibility and perform related serology.
• Performs chemical and/or immunological tests on body fluids.
• Counts and analyzes blood and body fluid cells; conducts coagulation testing.
• Prepares reagents, stains, and solutions; trains others in procedures.
• Consults with medical staff on laboratory services and participates in safety improvements.
