Job summary

Oregon Health & Science University seeks a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform testing across Transfusion Service, Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Body Fluids and limited Microbiology. Incumbent will handle specimen processing, test performance, and result reporting with training and supervision as required.

Responsibilities include instrument calibration, quality control, data reporting, and expert use of LIS/HIS systems.

Qualifications

General knowledge of laboratory terminology, equipment, materials and techniques, regulations and safety.
Skill in handling laboratory specimens, record keeping and laboratory equipment.
Skill in identifying cells and cell morphology.
Skill in using several computer systems, including LIS/HIS.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions and operate standard laboratory equipment.
Ability to work independently within guidelines and adapt to changing priorities.
Ability to demonstrate performance of duties to trainees.
Demonstrate integrity, efficiency, and adaptability in testing priorities.
Ability to work in a multi-tasking environment across many workstations.

Responsibilities

Performs testing in all sections of the Core Laboratory and Transfusion Service with accuracy, speed and efficiency using multiple instruments.
Prepares samples for testing and determines acceptability; repeats analyses as needed and reports results.
Performs computer functions using Beaker, WellSky and EPIC/Beaker software.
Answers telephone requests for laboratory information.
Calibrates, maintains and troubleshoots laboratory instruments and procedures.
Performs and evaluates quality control data to ensure instrument and procedure functionality.
Other duties as assigned
