Job summary

Think Whole Person Healthcare in Omaha, NE is seeking a Medical Technologist to support our Laboratory department. You will process specimens, perform the ordered tests, and ensure accurate results.

Requires a Bachelor's in MLS, MLS/MLT certification, BLS/CPR, and at least 1 year of experience with EHR systems. This is a full-time position with day shifts and a 40-hour workweek.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and MLS/MLT certification required.
  • BLS/CPR certification required.
  • 1 year of clinical lab experience with EHR systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform moderate complexity and waived testing per CLIA standards.
  • Follow procedures for specimen handling, testing, reporting and records.
  • Maintain quality control, document calibrations and maintenance.
  • Identify and report issues impacting test performance.
  • Adhere to corrective action policies when systems deviate.
  • Maintain HIPAA privacy and protect patient information.
  • Operate and troubleshoot lab instruments and software as needed.

Job Summary:

Provides information for patient diagnosis and treatment by processing and maintaining the stability of patient specimens and by performing the ordered laboratory tests.

  • Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week
  • Shifts: Days Monday thru Friday. 10am - 6:30pm
  • Training: Flexible hours for the first 4-6 weeks, rotating shifts.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform all testing that qualifies under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) definition of moderate complexity testing, as well as waived testing.
  • Follow the department procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
  • Adhere to the department quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and correct or immediately notify manager.
  • Follow the laboratory’s established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance.
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications
  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures and equipment, accessioning, verifying specimens and specimen requirements
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules.
  • Skill in communicating in a professional manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, and time management.
  • Skill in using a computer and a variety of software, including Electronic Health Records (EHR) software, Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
  • Skill in managing multiple priorities and problem solving.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet established goals and objectives.
  • Ability to maintain high levels of professional and personal integrity.
  • Ability to convey professional demeanor and sound judgment in dealing with patients’ care, protection of patient privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to act as a good representative of the company.
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Laboratory Science or related science, which includes a one-year internship in an approved clinical laboratory required.
  • American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification required.
  • Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) or Medical Lab Technician (MLT) certification required.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience as a clinical, hospital, or referral laboratory setting, utilizing electronic Health Records (EHR) required. One (1) year of experience in phlebotomy preferred.
