Job summary

Park Nicollet is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team. The role involves collecting, processing and performing lab testing per protocols, and acting as charge person for instrumentation.

The position supports a 70/10 incentive program with seven 10-hour shifts, rotating weekends and holidays, and requires certification within 12 months of hire.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related field.
• Certification within 12 months of hire is required; failure to certify may result in demotion or loss of position.
• Experience with laboratory instrumentation and electronic medical records is preferred.

Job description

Position Summary:

The Medical Laboratory Scientist collects, processes, and performs laboratory testing in accordance with laboratory protocols. The position functions as a key operator and trainer for instrumentation in assigned discipline. The position functions as charge person as assigned.

Work Schedule:

This position participates in the laboratory's 70/10 incentive program, working seven consecutive 10-hour shifts (Tuesday through Monday), every other weekend, and rotating holidays.

Scheduled hours are 2:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on weekdays and 1:45 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. on weekends and holidays.

Employees in this program work 70 hours per pay period while receiving compensation equivalent to an 80-hour pay period.

Required Qualifications:

Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or field related to area or specialty.

Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:

• American Society of Clinical Pathology or National Certification Agency, HEW or military certification is required.
• New hires must attain certification within 12 months of hire. Failure to attain certification will result in demotion or loss of position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Proven proficiency in the operation of the following: Personal Computer, Telephone, Fax Machine, Photocopier, Printer, electronic medical record, and all laboratory instrumentation used in their area of expertise.
