The role involves collecting, processing and performing laboratory testing according to established protocols, and serving as a key operator and trainer for instrumentation. The position may function as charge person as assigned.

Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related field. Certification within 12 months of hire is required, with ASCP/NCA/HEW or military credentials

Job description

Position Summary:

The Medical Laboratory Scientist collects, processes, and performs laboratory testing in accordance with laboratory protocols. The position functions as a key operator and trainer for instrumentation in assigned discipline. The position functions as charge person as assigned.

Work Schedule:

• 3:00PM - 11:30PM
• Monday - Friday
• Assignment includes weekend and holiday rotation.

Note: Rotation occurs approximately every 4th weekend and 1 - 2 holidays per year.

Required Qualifications:

Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or field related to area or specialty.

Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:

• American Society of Clinical Pathology or National Certification Agency, HEW or military certification is required.
• New hires must attain certification within 12 months of hire. Failure to attain certification will result in demotion or loss of position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Proven proficiency in the operation of the following: Personal Computer, Telephone, Fax Machine, Photocopier, Printer, electronic medical record, and all laboratory instrumentation used in their area of expertise.
