Job summary

Methodist Hospital is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team. This role collects, processes, and tests specimens in accordance with established protocols and serves as a key trainer for instrumentation. The position includes a 3:00PM–11:30PM schedule, Monday through Friday, with weekend and holiday rotations.

Responsibilities also include acting as charge person as assigned and contributing to quality assurance initiatives while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related field.
• New hires must attain certification within 12 months of hire (ASCP/NCA or equivalent).
• American Society of Clinical Pathology or National Certification Agency certification required within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Collect, process, and perform laboratory testing in accordance with protocols.
• Function as trainer for instrumentation and as charge person as assigned.
• Support continuous quality improvement and adherence to safety and regulatory standards.

Position Summary

The Medical Laboratory Scientist collects, processes, and performs laboratory testing in accordance with laboratory protocols. The position functions as a key operator and trainer for instrumentation in assigned discipline. The position functions as charge person as assigned.

Work Schedule

• 3:00PM - 11:30PM
• Monday - Friday
• Assignment includes weekend and holiday rotation. Note: Rotation occurs approximately every 4th weekend and 1 - 2 holidays per year.

Required Qualifications

Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or field related to area or specialty.

Licensure/ Registration/ Certification

• American Society of Clinical Pathology or National Certification Agency, HEW or military certification is required.
• New hires must attain certification within 12 months of hire. Failure to attain certification will result in demotion or loss of position.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Proven proficiency in the operation of the following: Personal Computer, Telephone, Fax Machine, Photocopier, Printer, electronic medical record, and all laboratory instrumentation used in their area of expertise.
