Job summary

UnityPoint Health in Marshalltown, IA seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist for an overnight, full-time position with weekend and holiday rotation. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is offered.

You will perform diagnostic testing across multiple lab disciplines and support patient care with accurate, timely results. Requirements include a bachelor degree in clinical laboratory science or medical technology, or equivalent federal qualifications, and ASCP MT/MLS certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
• OR qualify as Testing Personnel under Federal Register Sec 493.1489(b)(2) & General Supervisor under Federal Register Sec 493.1461.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic testing across hematology, chemistry, microbiology, blood bank, and other laboratory specialties
• Analyze and verify test results while ensuring accuracy and timely reporting of critical values
• Collect, receive, process, and prepare patient specimens for testing and reference laboratory send-outs
• Perform quality control, instrument maintenance, and basic troubleshooting to ensure reliable testing
• Follow laboratory policies, regulatory standards, and safety guidelines
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support patient care
• Maintain accurate documentation and laboratory records
• Assist with training and mentoring new team members and laboratory students
