Performs clinical laboratory testing and reports accurate and timely patient results in Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Immunology, Microbiology, and Transfusion Services. Performs waived, moderate-complexity, and high-complexity testing in accordance with laboratory procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Performs laboratory testing across multiple clinical laboratory sections.
- Processes specimens and reports accurate and timely patient results.
- Performs waived, moderately complex, and high-complexity testing as assigned.
- Troubleshoots automated laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
- Recognizes and investigates unusual or unexpected patient results.
- Serves as a resource to other laboratory staff for problem-solving and result interpretation.
- Follows established quality control, quality assurance, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintains accurate documentation and complies with laboratory policies and procedures.
- Assists with maintaining adequate supplies and notifying leadership of equipment, reagent, or supply concerns.
- Participates in competency assessments, continuing education, and required training.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with HIPAA requirements.
- Provides professional and collaborative service to patients, providers, and other healthcare team members.
Schedule & Availability
- Full-time position with variable scheduling based on department needs.
- Participates in a rotating holiday schedule.
- Participates in the Laboratory on-call rotation, including nights, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
- Must be available to respond to call-back needs and report to the laboratory when required.
- Schedule and on-call assignments are subject to department operational needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
- Must be ASCP registered or hold an equivalent recognized certification.
- New graduates must obtain the required MT/MLS certification within 6 monthsof hire.
- Ability to perform testing in a fast-paced clinical laboratory environment.
- Strong critical-thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous clinical laboratory experience preferred.
- Experience with automated laboratory instrumentation preferred.
- Experience in multiple laboratory disciplines preferred.
